There is no central application system: you apply to each institution directly. Programmes usually start: Each institution sets its own calendar. The public Universidad de El Salvador (UES) admits once a year, through an admission process (Proceso de Ingreso) run during the year before entry — Ingreso 2027 ran in 2026.

International applicants: Foreign applicants apply to each institution directly; UES's admission process is the same for everyone, with a passport in place of the Salvadoran identity documents.

Key dates

There is no central application system. UES's admissions page gave the Ingreso 2027 registration period as 4 May to 30 September 2026; the Ingreso 2028 dates had not been published when this was checked. Private universities and institutes publish their own dates.

Your checklist

The usual steps for an international student applying to a bachelor's in El Salvador, in order. Tick them off as you go — your ticks stay in this browser, with no account.

1.Choose an institution and programme — each university and institute admits directly and sets its own requirements.
2.For UES, create an account on its admissions portal during the registration period and upload your identity document (a passport for foreign applicants) and a photo.
3.Pay UES's US$10 registration fee at Banco Agrícola, online or at a branch, then log back in to continue.
4.Take UES's online aptitude test, which suggests a list of programmes that fit you.
5.Choose the modality (in person or online/distance), the campus (San Salvador, San Vicente, Santa Ana or San Miguel), the faculty and the programme.
6.Optionally follow UES's online refresher course, then print your registration slip (F-1), which gives the details of your general knowledge test.
7.Sit UES's general knowledge test (Prueba de Conocimiento General) on the date you are given.
8.Ask the institution what it needs to recognise a secondary diploma from abroad, and check with El Salvador's migration authority which residence status you need to study.
