Universities and colleges in the Pacific Islands

Most Pacific Island countries have only a few higher-education institutions, so they share this page. For each, it lists what the country's own regulator registers — 113 institutions on the registers of Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu— with the regulator to check recognition with. It shows names, types, towns and websites only: no fees, enrolment or rankings, except the accredited programme counts that Tonga's board publishes under an open licence.

This is a list of what each country's official register or regulator lists, as read on the date shown — not proof that an institution or a qualification is accredited or recognised. Check with the regulator before you apply.

University of the South Pacific

Official site: The University of the South Pacific · checked 21 October 2026

A regional university serving several Pacific countries: it is on the national registers of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga — see its rows below.

USP's website answered our requests with a bot check (HTTP 403), so its own list of campuses couldn't be read, and none is taken from anywhere else. See its own website.

Fiji

Regulator: Higher Education Commission Fiji · Higher Education Institutions (National Information Centre) · read 21 October 2026

The Higher Education Commission (formerly the Fiji Higher Education Commission) registers every institution that awards certificates, diplomas or degrees, under the Higher Education Act 2008 — so its register includes vocational, theological and professional schools as well as the 4 it classifies as universities. Types are the Commission's own; the town is the one in the head-office address the register gives.

To check recognition: the Commission's National Information Centre (registered institutions and accredited qualifications).

Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea has its own section, from its higher-education department's register.

US-affiliated islands

Colleges in the US Pacific territories and the freely associated states take part in US federal student aid, so they are in the US section, with figures from College Scorecard.

Australia and New Zealand

See Study in Oceania for the countries with sections of their own.

What isn't here, and why

The University of the South Pacific's website turns automated requests away, so its campuses are not listed from USP itself; it appears here only where a national register lists it. Solomon Islands and Kiribati have regulators but publish no register that we could find. Tuvalu and Nauru are not covered: we found no regulator or published register for either (checked 21 October 2026). The Cook Islands and Niue, self-governing states in free association with New Zealand, are not listed separately. The Pacific's regional register of qualifications, run by the Pacific Community, can only be searched through interactive forms and is not used.
