🇨🇳 671 institutions · 22 provinces
China's universities — the part that's open.
This is an incomplete list, and we'd rather say that at the top than let you discover it. China's Ministry of Education publishes a register of roughly 3,000 institutions and forbids commercial reuse of it, so what follows is built from open data instead — about 22% of the real total.
Roughly three in four Chinese universities are missing from this page
Why
The complete list is the Ministry of Education's 全国高等学校名单. Its site notice states that no media, website or commercial organisation may reproduce its content commercially. CollegeMatcher is a commercial site, so we don't use it — the same decision we made for India's AISHE directory and Australia's Course Seeker.
What this means for you
If your university isn't here, that is a gap in a community-maintained dataset — not a statement about the institution. Wikidata, released under CC0, is the only source we can lawfully republish, and it covers what volunteers have got round to entering.

Studying outside China?
China sends more students abroad than any other country. For the destinations that publish cost and graduate earnings, we can show you the real numbers.
