Cut-offs are the minimum Z-scores for the 2025/26 intake, by district, as published by the University Grants Commission. They are the score of the last candidate selected that year, not a requirement set in advance, and each year's are different. Special intakes and the extra criteria some courses apply are not reflected; courses that also hold an aptitude or practical test are listed separately and not sorted; and the UGC notes that a course not taught in all three languages may not take a candidate who has the score.
State universities admit on the A-level Z-score, which places a candidate against everyone who sat the same subjects that year. Each course has a cut-off for every one of Sri Lanka's 25 districts, because places are shared out between districts โ so the same course can need a very different score in Colombo and in a rural district. We compare your Z-score with the cut-off for your own district, and only for courses that admit from your subject stream. Where a course admits from several streams and has a single cut-off, the UGC selects all its candidates in one order of Z-scores, so that cut-off applies to each of those streams; where the UGC keeps places for one stream, it publishes a cut-off for that stream and we use only that one. Meeting a cut-off is not the same as being eligible โ each course also requires particular A-level subjects and grades, set out in the UGC admission handbook.
